The Stranger has written up a piece about Warped Tour's troubles this year. Kevin Lyman is quoted as saying next year those under 21 will have a tough time being on the tour.
“Next year we're going to have no kids on this tour. It’s going to be really tough if you want to be on this tour and are 21 and under. Whether it's the artist, crew… anyone.”

Billboard has posted an article on that whole Slaves being booted off Warped thing.
"When I booked him, my first question was, 'Is Jonny sober?'" Lyman tells Billboard via email, expressing concern over past problems Craig (who also fronts Dance Gavin Dance and Emarosa) had with drugs and alcohol. Craig admits he was drinking with his bandmates when the harrassment occurred.

Attilla's front-man apparently doesn't like the bands on Warped Tour this year and is having an ongoing spat with Buddy from Senses Fail. I mean, if it were me, I wouldn't even have to put together a vote to boot these guys from the tour.

Maria Sherman, writing for Flavorwire:
This kind of behavior is heightened in the pop-punk and emo scenes — a world that’s typically uninviting to female musicians. Men are on stage, and young women are off it, in this realm created by boys for girls — to impress or seduce them. When you have one of the scene’s most widely accessible institutions, Warped Tour, encouraging sympathy for men who take advantage of their young, emotional female fans, it speaks volumes about where the power lies. Because of the genre’s history of guys on stage/girls in the crowd, aspirations of groupiedom remain intact for these historically disrespected female fans. This is especially sad when you consider...

According to lots of posts on Twitter, and multiple sources, Slaves were asked not to play Warped Tour over the past few days. What led to this is still unclear and I've been unable to confirm for how long they'll not be playing.

Happy Friday everyone! I had planned to spend the day catching up on podcasts and relaxing for the long Fourth of July weekend. So, first things first: I hope everyone has a great and safe weekend. Definitely take advantage of that Apple Music trial to try out some new music while watching fireworks (I wrote up a few things I’ve been listening to lately on my blog). Usually this is the part of the week where I’d link to something funny, random, or interesting that I found over the past week. However, after seeing my Twitter at-replies this morning I’m just not in the mood for that right now. Instead, since I need more than 140 characters and I’m getting a bunch of questions about my...

Brian Marquis has taken to Twitter to clarify that he had nothing to do with Front Porch Step playing the acoustic stage in Nashville.
I want to clarify I had no hand in the events in Nashville nor was I part of the planning. I also did not introduce anyone onstage.

Dear Warped Tour,

We need to talk.

I fell in love with you when I was newly 16 years old. It was 2007, and the first year I’d found a way to get to you. My friend and I made plans, and scrimped and saved, and convinced a parent to drive us all the way out to Wheatland, California to see you. It was one of the best days of my life up until that point. You were the reason I started a band. You were the reason I have a platform to write this today, because you lead me to discover the bands that made me want to write.

But that was then, and things change.

There comes a time where actions have to be amplified louder than words. I’ve loved you as much as I’ve ever loved...

This time last year, there were so many of us challenging structures like the Warped Tour on their refusal to accurately represent female artists on their bills. We talked about the way it acts as a barrier to women who wish to get involved in alternative music and the message it sends to female fans that their place is solely in audiences, looking up to male artists and being treated only as groupies, “fangirls” or, if they’re lucky, backstage staff. We called upon Kevin Lyman and his peers to buy into the concept that they have a certain social responsibility to the people that they make their money from.

Today, Front Porch Step is playing the Warped Tour and may possibly play the...

As I talked about a little in this week's podcast, I've been working on a lengthier article in response to a lot of the stuff that's been going on in our music scene lately. It's on my blog because it gets long and I think it's a better reading experience there.
Sometimes I find myself trapped in a cycle of cynicism, believing that the way things are is the how they will stay. I remember feeling this way a lot during those first Bush-as-President years, and I’ve felt the dark coils wrapped around my mind again recently. With all of the news popping up around the Pure Noise Records situations, the what-feels-like weekly new discoveries of misconduct within the music scene, and the almost...

The YouTuber, Austin Jones, that was asking young girls to send him twerking videos, was going to be on Warped Tour, and inspired a petition, has posted a message on Facebook saying he's going to be in therapy and taking some time away.
What was I thinking? That's the question I know most of you want to know and, quite frankly, I want to know too. I have decided to take this time to reflect and to discover how to grow from this and become a better person. I owe that to my family, my friends, my fans, but most importantly to me.

After a Change.org petition showed up over the weekend asking Warped Tour to remove Austin Jones from the tour, Kevin Lyman said he would take all YouTubers off the tour, but has now clarifed that he needs to go through "due process" first. I guess that means vetting the facts.
From the Petition PageAs most of you know, Front Porch Step was removed from Warped Tour for asking for nudes from underage girls. Well, now we have another celebrity who girls from ages 12-18+ idolize. Austin Jones is now taking advantage of his fame. On numerous accounts, he has pressured girls as young as 13 into sending him videos of them twerking. As a 15 year old girl, I find this disgusting. I feel that...

Paul Adler, writing over at Medium, has posted a piece looking at the sexual violence that has occured at Warped Tour.
But over the past half-decade, a handful of alt-scene, so-called “Warped Tour” bands have found themselves accused of sexual misconduct with minors. Musicians have been convicted of crimes, and other bands have been condemned for their apparent advocacy of physical and sexual violence, especially toward women. Of course, the bands and the tour are separate entities, and Warped isn’t legally responsible (moral responsibility is another matter) for the actions of its acts. Nonetheless, it’s tempting to let these scandals color the general perception of the tour. More...

Megan Seling, writing for the Nashville Scene, takes a look at how summer festivals in our music scene are handling representation. Some are clearly doing better than others -- some barely look like they're trying.
Male musicians, if you're finding yourselves on lineups where women are so grossly underrepresented, ask the promoter why that is. Ask to include more female musicians in your shows and tours. Prove to festivals that women deserve more than 2 percent or, worse, to only get attention when magazines and festivals produce shit like "Hottest Chicks of Hard Rock"or "Girls Only" stages. I'm goddamn tired of female musicians being treated like lesser humans or tokens in the music...
